Earlier this year Darius V. Daughtry, an educator, playwright, and poet who uses the power of the written and spoken word to inspire young lives and build stronger communities gave a TEDx Talk that was pure poetry. It illustrated the power of the spoken and written word to guide people through life’s difficulties — and advocated for equitable access to arts programming and education. Daughtry is also the Founder and Executive Artistic Director of the Art Prevails Project, a performing and literary arts organization whose mission is to cultivate community by creating equitable access to arts programming and education. In the play Seeking a young musician’s quest for independence leads him to discover how instrumental his family’s past is to him in finding his future. This presentation will be a staged reading of a new play by Darius Daughtry, founder of the Art Prevails Project, and will have a chat back after each reading with an opportunity for the audience to give feedback.

Artist Adler Guerrier is creating a sculpture for the stage of the new Grace Arts FL Production adaptation of Shakespeare’s, ‘Merchant of Venice,’ set in Miami and Fort Lauderdale in the 1930s to function as an arrangement of objects, forms, and fragments that would help to localize the play. The production is guest directed and written by Darius V. Daughtry.
