Former lightweight world champion set for boxing return

George Kambosos Jr. is set to make his highly anticipated boxing return when faces Maxi Hughes in a lightweight world title eliminator on July 22, Top Rank Boxing announced on Tuesday.

Kambosos, a former WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and The Ring lightweight champion, must rebound from back-to-back losses to Devin Haney to regain momentum and get back into title contention.

Despite the advantage of fighting on home turf in Australia during his recent title bouts against Haney, Kambosos (20-2) was unable to defend his multiple lightweight world titles, resulting in the first two losses of his boxing career.

Kambosos, who hasn’t fought since October 2022, will have the opportunity to make a strong comeback when he takes on Hughes, a former lightweight titleholder in his own right.

Hughes (26-5-2) is on a seven-fight unbeaten streak that began in February 2020. Notably, he has secured 21 wins by decision and five by knockout throughout his career.

Keyshawn Davis and Francesco Patera are set to co-headline the fight card while boxing talents Giovani Santillan, Troy Isley and Jeremiah Milton will showcase their skills in respective bouts.

The event will be held at the FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It will be Kambosos’ first fight under the Top Rank Boxing banner.
