ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A young boy, who was born with half a heart, crossed a major hurdle after undergoing his third open heart surgery at Albany Medical Center.

Chase Hotaling, 4, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and other complications from birth. His mom penned the children’s book “The Little Blue Lion” after her son’s medical journey inspired her to reach out to other parents in the hospital.

This past week, after a 10-hour surgery, Chase is back on his feet and back home recovering. His mom told NEWS10 the surgery was successful in increasing his oxygen saturation.

While at the children’s hospital, Chase and his mom also donated 150 “The Little Blue Lion” books.
