As man removes plow from his Jeep, robber pushes him, steals vehicle: Shaker Heights police blotter

As a Shaker Heights police officer watched, a boy, 15, got out of a car at an intersection and yelled at the driver, his mother. It was learned that the boy was threatening his mother.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio --

Robbery: North Moreland Boulevard

At 11:30 a.m. March 20, officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of North Moreland Boulevard to investigate a motor vehicle robbery report.

Upon officers’ arrival, a Shaker Heights man, 61, reported that an unknown, masked, male suspect entered his Jeep vehicle while the man was removing its plow. The man reported that the unknown suspect pushed him down and drove away in the Jeep. The man suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention. Police are investigating.

Violation of a temporary protection order: Montgomery Road

At 1 a.m. March 17, officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Montgomery Road where a Beachwood woman, 25, reported that her estranged boyfriend, a 30-year-old Westlake man whom she has a protection order against, punched her several times and ordered her out of the vehicle in which they were driving. The woman declined medical attention.

OVI: Lee Road

At 10:50 p.m. March 17, officers observed a Jeep vehicle stopped, its engine running, in the intersection of Lee Road and Van AKen Boulevard. The driver, a Maple Heights man, 49, appeared to be asleep.

Officers woke the man and immediately smelled alcohol and recognized that he was impaired. The man failed field sobriety testing and was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence. Inside the man’s car, officers found two loaded handguns and marijuana.

A breath test reveled that the man had a .148 blood-alcohol content, above the state minimum for drunk driving of .08. He will also be charged with having weapons while intoxicated.

Domestic violence: Lee Road

At 8:45 a.m. March 17, while in the area of Aberdeen and Clayton roads, officers observed a 15-year-old Shaker Heights boy get out of an Audi vehicle, scream continuously at the car’s driver, and then walk away from the vehicle.

Officers learned that the driver was the juvenile’s mother, a 41-year-old Shaker Heights woman. It was also learned that the boy had been using threatening language while inside the car. Officers stopped the juvenile and assisted the family in locating services for their issues.

OVI: South Woodland Road

At 3:45 a.m. March 18, the driver of a Chevrolet committed a red light violation at the intersection of Warrington and South Woodland roads. Prior to stopping the car, police watched as the driver committed two marked lane space violations. A traffic stop was conducted and officers smelled the odor of alcohol on the person of the driver, a Cleveland Heights woman, 37. The woman also showed signs of impairment. She went on to fail field sobriety testing and was arrested for OVI.

The woman had a BAC of .232. She will also be charged with having an excessive BAC.

Disorderly conduct: Warrensville Center Road

At 5 p.m. March 18, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Warrensville Center Road to investigate a disturbance. It was learned that a 51-year-old Shaker Heights man and his girlfriend, 47, had been consuming alcohol and arguing about their rental deposit.

Police arrested the woman for disorderly conduct/intoxication after she left the building and began screaming and using threatening language.

OVI: Warrensville Center Road

At 1:05 a.m. March 19, police observed the driver of a Hyundai auto commit a traffic signal violation at the intersection of Fairmount Circle and Warrensville Center Road. Officers stopped the vehicle, smelled alcohol, and learned that the driver, a South Euclid woman, 59, had been drinking and showed signs of impairment.

The woman failed field sobriety testing and was arrested for OVI. She refused to provide a breath sample.

Carrying a concealed weapon: Lee Road

At 12:45 a.m. March 20, police stopped a Chrysler vehicle that displayed fictitious license plates while on Lee Road, near Hampstead Road. The driver, a Cleveland man, 20, was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm firearm. He initially lied to officers about being in possession of the gun.

Officers arrested the man for carrying a concealed weapon.

OVI: Chagrin Boulevard

At 10:15 p.m. March 20, an officer stopped a pickup truck that had heavily tinted windows that interfered with the officer’s ability to see the vehicle’s rear license plate.

Inside the truck, a 6-year-old child was not in a booster seat. The driver, a Cleveland man, 56, smelled of alcohol and showed signs of impairment. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI and child endangering. The man refused to submit a breath sample.

Assault: Courtland Boulevard

At 11:15 a.m. March 22, officers were dispatched to Shaker Heights Country Club, 3300 Courtland Blvd., where the 70-year-old manager reported that he and a 32-year-old male employee, a Cleveland resident, were involved in a physical altercation during which the manager was injured while falling to the ground.

Officers summonsed medical attention for the manager and arrested the employee for assault.

Criminal trespass: North Park Boulevard

At 12:30 p.m. March 22, police were called to Hathaway Brown school, 19600 North Park Blvd., where the security director shared photographs from a social media site of an unknown male walking within a restricted area of the building after hours. An investigation is taking place.
