Panhandler Nabbed For Assault Of Man In Commack, Cops Say
Robert Whittaker, age 56, of East Patchogue, was charged with felony assault for the Tuesday, May 7 attack in a Commack parking lot. According to Suffolk County Police, Whittaker was panhandling for money in a parking lot of 10 Garet Place when he pushed a 79-year-old man, causing minor injuries.
Tragic Collision in Commack: Motorcyclist Killed in Afternoon Accident on Jericho Turnpike
Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Commack this afternoon. Susan Capone was driving a 2020 Volkswagen westbound on Jericho Turnpike when she attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot, located at 6070 Jericho Turnpike, and collided with a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle being driven eastbound at 4:15 p.m.

This community right-of-way and sidewalk clearing on Old Town Road between Pagnotta Drive and Old Town Road connects residents of Comsewogue and Middle Country School districts.
Long Island Man Sentenced to 42 Months' Imprisonment for $3 Million Bank Loan Scheme
Earlier today, in federal court in Central Islip, Gary Confredo, also known as “Gary Conte,” the former operator of Goldstar Financial Management Corp. (Goldstar), a financial services business based in Commack, New York, was sentenced by United States District Judge Joan M. Azrack to 42 months’ imprisonment for conspiring to commit bank fraud in connection with a scheme to defraud Bank of America of more than $3.2 million in loans and lines of credit that were obtained under false pretenses. The Court also ordered Confredo to pay $1,096,882 restitution to Bank of America. Confredo pleaded guilty to the charge in November 2022.

It’s hard to believe that we are in the midst of another college graduation season. As an educator, I have valued my time teaching college and graduate students. Since the pandemic, educating college students has changed radically. Their academic skills could be stronger, as well as their critical thinking and analytical writing skills. However, I have still found them open to new ideas and broader perspectives on their view of the world. Like many of my colleagues, I am concerned about their tendency towards isolation and their disconnectedness from their peers.
