PopUp Bagels Opens Highly-Anticipated 2nd NYC Location On The UWS
PopUp Bagels amassed a cult-following for their ripable and dipable bagels that went absolutey viral on social media. Though many believe their an NYC-born and bred company, the first PopUp Bagels shop actually opened in Connecticut by CEO and Founder, Adam Goldberg. Their irresistible bagels didn’t get a permanent home in NYC until last year when their Greenwich Village location had opened. Now just shortly after, the team is opening up a second NYC location on the Upper West Side at 338 Columbus Avenue. “Bringing PopUp Bagels to the Upper West Side is not just an expansion – it’s our way of further weaving into the fabric of one of the greatest food cities in the world…” said Goldberg. Spanning 1,100 square feet, Upper West Siders will now be privy to the freshly-baked, mouthwatering bagels seven days a week! Bagels will be available for pre-order and walk up.
Here’s How Dirty The NYC Subway Air Really Is
A study published in 2021 to the journal of Environmental Health Perspectives sheds light on the disturbing findings regarding the air within East Coast subway stations, most specifically New York’s. In an attempt to survey air quality surrounding subway systems on the East Coast and how it affects travelers and commuters, researchers collected air quality samples from a total of 71 stations across subways in NYC/NJ area, Philadelphia, Boston and Washington D.C. What they found were high levels of particulate matter (PM2.5) and particle composition during rush hour across the East Coast cities (both morning and night). To clarify, PM2.5 is defined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as inhalable particles, generally 2.5 micrometers or less. Increased concentrations of PM2.5 can lead to serious health implications such as aggravated asthma, decreased lung function, nonfatal heart attacks and so on. Iron and organic carbon were the primary components of the particulate matter found. “Our findings add to evidence that subways expose millions of commuters and transit employees to air pollutants at levels known to pose serious health risks over time,” said study lead author, David Luglio.

The Northern Lights May Be Visible In NY This Weekend
The Aurora Borealis, more commonly known as the Northern Lights, is a stunning natural phenomenon that creates an incredible display of color that seems to dance across the sky. Though, sadly, they’re typically only seen in countries closest to the Arctic and Antarctic circles that are often remote. Though if you’re one of the many who’s had witnessing this phenomenon on your bucket list you may actually be in luck this weekend–and no, you won’t have to fly to Iceland, Canada, Greenland, or Norway to see them! A large Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is expected to hit the earth’s atmosphere sometime Friday night, May 10th, into Saturday morning, May 11th. And that means the aurora borealis could potentially be seen in the skies above a large portion of the United States–including New York–this weekend! The Space Weather Prediction Center defines Coronal Mass Ejections as “explosions of plasma and magnetic fields from the sun’s corona. They cause geomagnetic storms when they are directed at Earth.”

Rents In NYC Are Rising 7x Faster Than Wages, Says Study
A recent study done by StreetEasy using their own data along with data from Zillow and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics found the gap between median rent and average wage increases across the US, and New York City’s gap may actually bring a tear to your eye. That’s because since 2019 rents have grown faster–1.5x faster to be exact–than wages in 44 of the nation’s 50 largest metropolitan regions, and no place saw a gap worse than NYC. Between 2022 and 2023 alone, wages in NYC increased 1.2% compared to a whopping 8.6% increase in rents–a 7.4% point difference accounting for the largest gap in the country. And though NYC’s gap is the worst, wages simply haven’t kept up with rent growth anywhere across the country in recent years.

NYC Is The Best U.S. City For Food & Drink In 2024
Welcome to NYC, where the food and drink reign supreme—and no, we’re not biased, Food & Wine said so! In their newest Global Tastemakers list in the U.S. for 2024, New York City was crowned the best city in the country for food and drink. When you take into consideration our iconic pizza, unforgettable bagels and melting pot of cultures, it’s seems like a no brainer we snagged the first spot. In Food & Wine‘s ranking, they gave a special shout out to NYC establishments including L’industrie pizza (home of the mouthwatering burrata slice), Sappe for tantalizing cocktails and Superiority Burger, serving up pie slices covered in tapioca pearls. “New York City possesses the uncanny ability to deftly balance classic cuisine with the latest trends,” wrote Food & Wine. The city continues to churn out show-stopping new openings with an ever-evolving food and drink scene. Recently debuted Korean fine-dining restaurant Nosku was called out, among elevated fried chicken spot, Coqodaq, that famously offers caviar-topped nuggets.
This Is The Most Beautiful Restaurant In New York
There’s no shortage of mouthwatering restaurants in NYC, but the truth is some go way further than just offering a menu that will tantalize your tastebuds. Some restaurants go above and beyond to truly focus on the overall experience of dining, making them as stunning as they are delicious, and in honor of PEOPLE’s 50th anniversary the editors at OpenTable and PEOPLE paired up to crown the most beautiful restaurant in each state. And as for New York, NYC’s very own Verōnika took that title! Tucked away in a 19th century building within Fotografiska New York, NYC’s Swedish photography museum, Verōnika is actually made up of two parts: a restaurant and a bar.
NYC Beaches & Pools May Remain Open 2 Months Longer Than Usual
Oh how we love beach and pool season in NYC, but our one complaint: the season never feels long enough. Currently, NYC beaches are open Memorial Day through Labor Day while outdoor pools are open June through September, but this year NYC beach and pool season may be extended! Democratic City Councilman Shekar Krishnan recently introduced a bill that would keep NYC beaches and pools open through the second Sunday in October–two months longer than usual! Beyond extending the season by two months, operating hours would also be extended. Current NYC beach operating hours are 10 am to 6 pm while pools are open 11 am to 7 pm with a brief hour close (3 – 4 pm) for cleaning. But under the new bill operating hours would be 8 am to 8 pm.
