When the Seattle Seahawks signed quarterback Geno Smith to a new deal this offseason it signaled that for at least the time being he is their franchise quarterback for now.

Despite that signing, though, the Seahawks might decide that Smith is ultimately a bridge quarterback and thus select someone to sit behind him with the No. 5 pick. For now, at least, Smith is the guy in Seattle.

However, that didn't stop Drew Lock from signing a one-year to stay in Seattle - instead, he is optimistic about what the Seahawks have brewing.

“They’re building something here,” Lock said. "It’s really, really cool, and I really want to be a part of it. This is a special place. There was everything drawing me back here."

"The city. Pete [Carroll] and John [Schneider] have just created a place that is unique. It’s a place I couldn’t walk away from without spending a little more time here.”

While Lock didn't see any action in his first season as a Seahawk he believes that his time in Seattle so far has been one of the most helpful in his young career.

“I feel like I learned more in this last year,” Lock said. “I didn’t play, but I learned so much from being with Shane [Waldron], being with Pete, hearing how they talk football, and situation football, and how to handle a locker room."

"Everything those guys taught me last year, again, I’m excited to be able to come back and be here for another year and learn more from them.”

Lock might not play once again this year but another year in the Seattle system could benefit him in the long term - and potentially make him a desirable quarterback option in free agency for a team in the future.
