An investigation is underway after a boat sunk in Ballard's Salmon Bay on Monday morning.
The Seattle Fire Department tweetedat 10:48 a.m. that crews were on the scene on the 5300 block of 26th Avenue Northwest as two decommissioned vessels were sinking. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) was also on the scene, according to the fire department.
At 11:02 a.m., the fire department tweeted that no one was onboard either vessel, and one of the vessels sunk.
USCG said there were no pollutants on board the vessel. All diesel and oily water was removed in 2021 after the vessel was deemed derelict. Two other abandoned vessels were tied to the tugboat at the time of the sinking.
Those two vessels were secured and do not present a hazard to maritime traffic, USCG said.
USCG said it will continue to monitor the situation.
