2 people hurt, suspect arrested in hatchet attack

SEATTLE — A woman was arrested after a man and his mother were hurt in a hatchet attack on Saturday night in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood.

Seattle police said the attack happened at 8th Avenue and James Street while the two were walking.

Medics with the Seattle Fire Department said a 40-year-old man suffered minor injuries, a large cut to his shin and was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. His mother was not seriously hurt.

The woman was taken into custody.

The man told police he hit the woman in the head with his skateboard in order to escape.

At one point, the incident caused all westbound lanes of James Street to be blocked.
