SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Team Pennsylvania claimed the Battle of the All-Stars title in the 2023 Battle of the All-Stars Roller Derby Tournament.
Hundreds of women rolled into the final day of the tournament at the Riverfront Sports Complex.
A weekend roller derby competition in Scranton came to an end in thrilling fashion.
Riverfront Sports Complex was the site of the 2023 Battle of the All-Stars Roller Derby Tournament.
Other teams took to the rink to settle some scores, including Texas, Colorado, and Kentucky.
After 52 games involving 24 teams over four days, the final match came down to Team Pennsylvania versus Team Florida, and the PA team claimed the title: 131-to-126.
Eyewitness News caught up with one of Team Pennsylvania’s leaders before the big match.
“I’m very excited, I mean I’m from Florida but I live here in Pennsylvania, so a lot of the girls on team Florida, I know them very well. So it’s really gonna be great, to skate with your friends on the other team,” said Vanessa Kerecman, Founder and Director of the BOTAS and Player for the Pennsylvania All-Stars.
Sunday’s victory gives the Pennsylvania All-Stars their seventh Battle of the All-Stars title.
