Urban Cookies Bakeshop is opening a second location. The new shop is slated to open this fall in Scottsdale northwest of Loop 101 and Shea Boulevard.

Husband and wife team Brady and Shaun Breese started the Phoenix bakery in 2005 and won Food Network's "Cupcake Wars" in 2011. Eighteen years after opening their doors, they finally decided to move forward with another shop.

"There are moments in your life when it feels like all the stars align and the universe is pushing you forward," Shaun Breese wrote in a blog post. "This is that moment for our little bakery. It's time to take a leap and trust that gut feeling that tells you, you can do it."

Why Urban Cookies' Scottsdale location is 'perfect'

Urban cookies Bakeshop is opening a second location.

For the second Urban Cookies location, the Breeses took over an old Subway restaurant and started demolition in May. The new space is 1,200 square feet. They plan to continue making cookie dough, cupcake batter and frosting at the original shop, which offers more space at 2,500 square feet. However, cookies and cupcakes will be baked daily at the new shop.

According to Shaun Breese, it took two years to find the perfect spot. The right landlord, the ability to serve Scottsdale and the East Valley and the abundance of other businesses, such as Starbucks, Culver's, Snooze Eatery, Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers, contributed to choosing this spot.

In addition, she said, "It's on our parent route. Any parent knows how hard it can be to balance kids' school schedule and work. This location is perfect for daily visits."
