Stabbing leads to standoff in Scottsdale; 2 arrested

Two men were arrested after a stabbing in Scottsdale led to a standoff with police on June 4.

Scottsdale Police say the incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. on June 4 at the Extended Stay America Hotel near Scottsdale Road and Goldwater Avenue.

Officers responded to the scene after a 36-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by two men. Police say he was able to escape from the suspects and make it to the front office for help.

"During a physical altercation with the suspects, the victim was kicked in the head, had a knife held to his throat, and suffered a laceration to the head from the knife," police said.

The suspects, 48-year-old Andre Woods and 41-year-old Justin Walowitz, were met by officers at a hotel room, where Walowitz was taken into custody.

Stabbing suspects arrested in Scottsdale

One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the stabbing, and two people were detained following a barricade situation at the Extended Stay America Hotel.

Police say Woods exited the room but ignored commands to stop and instead, went inside another hotel room.

A SWAT team was called to the scene and following an hours-long standoff, Woods surrendered and was taken into custody.

Walowitz and Woods were booked into jail and are accused of aggravated assault and kidnapping.
