Some settlements have been reached between Schoharie crash victim family members and Mavis Discount Tire Store.
But the hunt for justice is still on from those that lost their loved ones in the tragic limo crash, despite operator of the limo company Nauman Hussain remaining behind bars.
Hussain, found guilty on 20 counts of manslaughter in the second degree was sentenced for a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 years in prison on Wednesday.
Family members say more are to blame for this crash.
"I tried to wrap my head around how our lives got entangled with this criminal and his family," said Sheila McGarvey, mother of crash victims Shane McGowan and daughter in law Erin McGowan "I guess its because the FBI, Department of Transportation, and Motor Vehicles allowed the limo service to be operational."
Family members gave victim impact statements before Judge Peter Lynch sealed Hussain's fate.
Some like Sheila McGarvey say the FBI, New York State DOT, DMV, Hussain's father Shahed Hussain, and Mavis Discount Tire Store should also be held responsible.
Local Schoharie officials agree.
"I think his father definitely" said Asm. Chris Tague (R) Schoharie "he'll probably never touch soil again in the United States ever again but he should."
During the trial, a Department of Transportation inspector testified how for months he tried to get Hussain into regulation.
Special Prosecutor Fred Rench saying Chad Smith was key to this case.
"He did everything he could possibly do," said Special Prosecutor Schoharie Limo Trial Fred Rench "Chad Smith is a hero, and Chad Smith attempted to avoid a tragedy that he did not know was in the making then Chad Smith through the course of dealing with Nauman Hussain made our prosecution possible."
Outside of the Schoharie Court house, many of the families have filed wrongful death lawsuits against Mavis and others they believe share blame.
Just days ago court documents revealed that some families have settled in principle with Mavis Discount Tire, meaning they are still in negotiating terms.
One family though is still pursuing lawsuits against Nauman Hussain, the limo company, Mavis Discount Tire, and New York State.
"What we hope to show throughout the course of the case" Cynthia LaFave Representing some Schoharie crash victim family members "is how much Mavis did to let this tragedy occur and I think they deserve very much to be looked at and indicted."
LaFave says the victim family members lawsuit she's representing is still in the works, she hopes Saratoga District Attorney Karen Heggen will continue to look into Mavis as well.
For now, they'll be meeting with the judge in less than two months and continuing to fight for more justice.
