SCHAUMBURG (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Village trustees in Schaumburg have approved what they’re calling “inflation relief payments” for employees, despite objections from some citizens.

The trustees unanimously approved payments of $1,000 for full-time village employees and $500 for part-timers.

William Olsen was among those who said “wait a minute.”

There was very little deliberation in committee. It was proposed by a village manger to reward, among others, a village manger. I think there should be more public discourse around it, and I motion to recommit,” Olsen said at the meeting.

They all voted in favor of the payments that amount to about $440.00.

The money is coming from a surplus in the village’s general fund of $18 million. $3 million has been set aside for $150 gift cards for each of the village’s roughly 20,000 homeowners.
