American Legion to host Memorial Day Program Monday
American Legion Davidson-Haltom Post 157 in Henderson will host a solemn commemorative ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of Henderson City Hall, to honor all military veterans who willingly made the supreme sacrifice to safeguard the United States of America. The public is encouraged to attend the approximately one-hour ceremony.
Henderson Elks Lodge presents donation to American Legion
Members of Henderson’s Elks Lodge 2459 presented a $400 check to the Davidson-Haltom American Legion Post 157 on May 7. In accordance with their national principles to serve people and communities, The Elks sold barbeque chicken plates to raise the money to benefit the local veterans’ organization. Each year The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks works to support numerous patriotic and community-minded programs in their local communities.
Hickory Corner community celebrates homecoming
The Hickory Corner Homecoming was held Saturday, May 18, at Hickory Corner Community Center. Our State Senate District is blessed with folks who are everyday heroes. They won’t likely be featured on network news or in Hollywood tabloids. But they are the backbone of our Nation and home area. I am going to lift up these heroes regularly and give them the accolades they deserve and that we need to celebrate.One such hero is Principal Steve Killingsworth at Adamsville High School. Six years ago he took the job with the belief that the most important lessons his students should learn was how to get along with people. In particular, how to deal with conflict and frustration without fights. As you know, that’s almost unheard of in our schools and society anymore.
