What to know about the Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards Show on June 5
Dennis KnightThe Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards Show, presented by Georgia Ports, Monday, is set for Monday, June 5 at the Johnny Mercer Theatre.
The show recognizes the top high school athletes from the Greater Savannah area in 20 sports. First-team honorees in those sports have been announced throughout the year, and the players of the year in each sport will be revealed at the show. The overall male and female athletes of the year and the most versatile male and female athletes will also be announced, along with the winner of the Courage Award.
The Boys and Girls overall Teams of the Year will we awarded, along with the overall Boys and Girls Coaches of the Year and a Spirit Award.

Sony Michel, the former star running back from Georgia who has won a pair of Super Bowl titles with the Patriots and Rams, will be the guest speaker at the show. He replaces Nolan Smith, the Savannah native and UGA football star recently drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the NFL Draft. Smith had to cancel because of team obligations with the Eagles.
Last year, Benedictine's Justin Thomas and Veronica Sierzant of Islands were selected as the Male and Female Overall Athletes of the Year. Thomas just finished his freshman year playing baseball for the University of Georgia. Sierzant, who recently graduated from Islands and is headed to Syracuse on a volleyball scholarship, will be in the running once again.

WHEN: Monday, June 5. Doors open at 6:30 p.m for reception and photos. Show starts at 7 p.m.
WHERE: Johnny Mercer Theatre at the Savannah Civic Center located at 301 W Oglethorpe Ave., Savannah.
NOMINATED ATHLETES: All nominated athletes must register for a free ticket. Coaches of year will have their names at door to be admitted also. Nominated athletes register here.
TICKETS: All guests of nominated athletes need tickets for entry. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets can be purchased here.
