Gallery: Coastal Georgia Council, BSA 2023 Golden Eagle Dinner

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A big honor for former Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson.

She was recognized at the Coastal Georgia Boy Scouts Of America Annual Golden Eagle Dinner.

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson and Representative Derek Mallow also took part in the event.

The Golden Eagle Award is presented to leaders who are champions of community service and those who display scout qualities like loyalty, trustworthiness and kindness

“My whole life has been built on helping people. It’s about what you can do here in this community.”

Now serving as a state representative, Edna Jackson was mayor of Savannah from 2012 to 2015.

She was the first African-American woman to hold the office.
