Fayette schools, Lexington officials finalizing snow bus routes to cut down on snow days
Fayette County Public Schools and Lexington city officials are moving forward with plans to address alternative bus stops for winter and other extreme weather events. Interim FCPS Superintendent Bill Bradford said alternative bus routes have been a top priority since he stepped into the top leadership position in June. Bus route issues were part of what caused Lexington students to miss traditional in-person class time for a full two weeks during a significant winter storm earlier this year. Snow and ice blanketed the area during Winter Storm Fern , clogging city streets, closing schools and angering city residents. “We want our students to be in our classrooms,” Bradford said during a press conference Thursday, Oct. 22, at city hall. “We want to return our students and our staff back into our buildings for that in-person learning experience.” City officials said they hope to have the alternative bus routes by Oct. 30. City and school officials have been meeting for months. The school system does not finalize bus routes until late August or September, when school starts. That’s delayed hammering out the alternative snow bus routes. “We’ve had these routes in the past and they have worked well,” said Mayor Linda

Why has Kentucky State University faced budget troubles? The answer is obvious | Opinion
Over several decades, I have read various newspaper accounts addressing Kentucky State University’s seeming lack of financial acumen. I have listened to government officials publicly (and privately) chastise KSU for a broad spectrum of issues. And over this same period, I have listened to friends, colleagues and acquaintances ask me this consensus question: What is going on at KSU? I have been the recipient of this question because for 18 years. I worked in the Office of Budget Review of the Legislative Research Commission/General Assembly, and for 13 years, I served as the chief of staff in the Office of the President at Kentucky State University. I understand the factors surrounding this topic. Following is my findings on KSU finances. My analysis of Biennial Budget Bills covering the fiscal years 1999-2028 reveals that, despite fluctuations in the general fund state appropriation, Kentucky State University’s true discretionary operating budget has been stagnant . Fixed statutory mandates — primarily land grant matching requirements and pension/debt service/other earmarks — have consistently absorbed any gross funding increases. That has left KSU with virtually the same operational purchasing dollars it held more than two decades ago. In 1999, KSU received $20.4 million in general fund

This Small Kentucky College Doesn’t Charge Tuition, And Families Treat Getting In Like Winning The Lottery
Every single student at one Kentucky college pays zero tuition. Not some students. That promise has held for generations, and it comes with a twist. Students work campus jobs while they study, and graduates often leave without crushing debt. One alum even says the value keeps growing years after graduation.

The end of the Kentucky high school football regular season is inching closer and closer. A trend has formed at the top of KSR’s Top 25 rankings. The top eight in this week’s update remained the same. Trinity continues to hold down the No. 1 position with Christian Academy-Louisville right behind. Frederick Douglass, Pulaski County, Highlands, and Boyle County have all been ranked 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively, for several weeks now. That being said, we had some movement throughout the rest of the Top 25. Most notably, Woodford County jumped five spots to No. 10 following its 44-35 win over Sco...
