Jamala the Giraffe (Safari West)
Safari West is mourning the death of a beloved Masai giraffe. Jamala, a 25-year-old female giraffe, had been suffering from geriatric arthritis. She was euthanized last week after her condition worsened. Jamala was born at the Los Angeles Zoo and had lived at Safari West north of Santa Rosa since 2001. Giraffes have a typical lifespan of about 25 years in the wild.
