SANTA ANA (CNS) - Santa Ana police Wednesday were investigating the cause of a fatal accident Tuesday night in which a homeless man was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The pedestrian was struck in the 2400 block of West Edinger Avenue, according to Sgt. Maria Lopez of the Santa Ana Police Department. The department received multiple calls about the collision at 10:53 p.m., she said.

Police suspect the victim -- 33-year-old transient Oscar Duran Hernandez -- was crossing Edinger Avenue when the eastbound vehicle struck him, Lopez said. The driver remained on the scene and it does not appear alcohol played a role in the accident, Lopez said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision was asked to call police at 714-345-8219 or 714-245-8200.
