Texans wide receiver Tank Dell suffered a “minor wound” Saturday night during a shooting at a Florida nightclub.
Dell was an innocent bystander and got caught in the crossfire during a mass shooting at an establishment in Sanford, Florida, according to KPRC in Houston.
The 24-year-old was not involved in the altercation that led to the violence.
The Texans labeled the wound minor in a statement and said that Dell had been released from the hospital.
Christopher Bouie Jr., 16, was arrested over the alleged shooting, according to Click Orlando
“He is in good spirits,” the Texans said in a statement . “We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates when appropriate, but we ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the incident.”
Dell was in Florida visiting his mother in Daytona Beach, which is just under 40 miles away from Sanford.
The shooting occurred at Cabana Live and wounded 10 people when a 16-year-old gunman is said to have opened fire following a fight, according to the Associated Press.
The suspect was charged with attempted homicide, firing a weapon in a public place, using a firearm during a felony and illegal possession of a firearm by a minor.
In a statement on Facebook, the venue said that it had rented out the space for a private event and were still figuring out what caused the incident.
Dell is coming off a rookie campaign that showed plenty of promise before a broken fibula interrupted things.
He finished with 709 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while breaking the franchise rookie record for touchdown receptions.
The wide receiver had been participating in Houston’s offseason program and had even been getting in extra work with quarterback C.J. Stroud.
“He looks great,” Stroud told KPRC recently. “He’s gotten a lot better. Mentally, I think for both of us, really all of the rookies coming into Year 2, everything is starting to slow down, and the wheels aren’t turning so much up in your head. You’re starting to play ball. Being able to throw with him in L.A. was really big.”
Dell had been a third-round pick by the Texans in the 2023 NFL Draft out of University of Houston.
