SANDWICH — The Sandwich Select Board in a rare Thursday afternoon session on March 16 unanimously voted to award the Sandwich Boardwalk reconstruction contract to ACK Marine and General Contracting LLC of Quincy.

The decision came at the recommendation of Town Manager George “Bud” Dunham. The contract figure is $3,233,220.

Board of Selectmen member Michael Miller asked if ACK is “ready to go.”

Assistant Town Engineer Samuel Jensen assured the board members that the firm is set for the project.

“They’ve indicated that they’re on board and champing at the bit,” Jensen said.

ACK was among five firms bidding for the project to repair and upgrade the iconic but storm-damaged boardwalk, hit by a January nor’easter in 2022.

Dunham earlier this month said reconstruction would proceed in the warm weather but the walkway across the marsh at Cape Cod Bay would not open to the public this summer.
