Kayaker found safe in the Keweenaw after police receive SOS notification
GRANT TOWNSHIP, MI— A Minnesota man is safe, after officials in the Keweenaw received a distress signal offshore. Monday around 2 p.m., the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an SOS off of Horseshoe Trail in Grant Township. The Copper Harbor Fire Department, Keweenaw County Search and Rescue, DNR Parks and Recreation, and the U.S. Coast Guard were also deployed to look for Cale Prozen of Minnesota.
St. Clair County Woman Faces Up to 15 Years for Fatal Washington Township Crash
A St. Clair County woman is facing a serious prison sentence after being charged with reckless driving, causing death in a fatal Washington Township crash, according to officials. The unidentified 27-year-old from Riley could face up to 15 years behind bars for the accident that took place earlier this year on Feb. 2. Macomb County Sheriff's Office announced that the charge had been authorized by the county prosecutor’s office, as per reports by The Detroit News.

Police Beat: St. Clair County
At about 3:30 p.m. May 6, a bomb threat was reported at the Home Depot in Fort Gratiot Township, according to officials from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office. When the threat was found written on the wall in a bathroom stall, law enforcement was notified. Upon learning of the situation, deputies responded, calling for area bomb K-9s to respond, as well as Fort Gratiot Fire Department to stage in the area. Michigan State Police K-9 and a Port Huron Police Department K-9 responded to the store. They worked meticulously clearing the building. No bomb and nothing of concern was located. The store resumed normal business.
Croswell-Lexington Board of Education fills vacant seat
The Croswell-Lexington Board of Education has chosen Croswell EMS Director Tim Niggemeyer to fill its recently vacant board seat. The board seat opened at the end of April when the board's previous president, Russell Nowiski, resigned from the position. Niggemeyer was appointed on Monday during a special board meeting. He said he submitted an application to the board because he wanted to be a part of making the school district run well.
