In the realm of Silver Creek High School sports, the track and field squad emerges as a symbol of commitment and development. Under the guidance of Coach Jacy Riel, the team’s members exhibit advancements both physically and mentally throughout their school athletic journey. With more than half of the season completed, the team is gearing up to tackle upcoming challenges with performance and recovery, led by the leadership of senior athletes and supportive teammates driving their progress.

For students at Silver Creek, track and field signifies not just a sport, but a journey of personal growth.

Coach Riel explains, “athletes that have been in the program all four years often show growth from year to year in both the physical and mental aspects of the sport.”

As freshmen, athletes deal with uncertainties and nerves while trying to find their place within the team. However, as they navigate through their years as track competitors, they develop confidence, strength, and insight into their potential and abilities.

Coach Riel praises the contributions of this year’s athletes, by remarking, “My seniors this year are phenomenal. Their leadership makes my job easier and inspires their teammates to be better.”

Senior athlete Nick Bigelow shares his journey with track and field after time away from competing with the school. Reflecting on his time as a freshman, Bigelow recalls the joy of competing and hopes to spread his enthusiasm with the rest of the team. “Doing track and field my freshman year was a super fun experience,” he remarks. “I hope to share my fond enjoyment of the sport and bring a fun attitude.”

For varsity senior athlete Fiona Henry, joining the track team this year was driven by a strong mindset to try new things and explore new opportunities in athletics. As one of the team captains, Henry represents the team’s energetic spirit, as well as the support and inclusivity shown by the team’s athletes. “I was motivated to join the track team this year to stay in shape over the spring,” she explains. “It’s really fun, a super welcoming and high-energy team.”

With the season reaching its climax, the team begins to focus on the upcoming state qualifiers and championships. The overall support and dedication shown by the Silver Creek athletes is a motivating force for the team to achieve their goals and success.

As they reach the peak of their season performance, the team continues to put in the hard work on and off the field, while showing what it means to be a motivated athlete and good teammate. With the experienced seniors leading the way and new athletes bringing enthusiasm and good attitudes, the team is ready to succeed as they are counting off the days until the Colorado State track and field championships. With all of the hard work they’ve put into the season, the track and field team truly represents the perseverance and unity that Silver Creek High School’s athletics is known for.
