The National Weather Service said that there would be light, "scattered" showers in the region on Wednesday and Thursday. However, the forecasters warned that more precipitation was to come.
"A stronger system brings rain and wind back to the region on Friday into Saturday," the NWS said. "Prepare for longer commute times and keep that umbrella handy."
The storm will being a 25 percent chance of thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday as well as more scattered rain on Sunday. Some areas may only see half an inch of rain, but the Big Sur could record over three inches.
The outlook is worse further south. Areas from Santa Barbara all the way to San Diego are under flood watch for the weekend with between one and three inches of rain predicted for coastal towns and valleys and up to six inches forecasted for the south facing mountains.
"Gusty southerly winds will develop across the area on Friday afternoon, especially over the higher terrain, across the interior portion of the area, and for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties," the NWS Los Angeles said.
"Roadway flooding will be a particular hazard on Saturday and Sunday, so if you are planning to travel into or out of southern and central California , plan for more time to reach your destination over the weekend. It may be best to alter travel plans to avoid the peak times for rain and mountain snow."
Gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms are forecasted to hit Los Angeles between Friday and Monday. Motorists are urged to be careful of mud and rockslides.
