June 10 (UPI) -- At least nine people were injured in a shooting incident in San Francisco's Mission District late Friday, police said.
The shooting happened at around 9:07 p.m. near 24th St. and Treat Avenue in the city's well-known historic neighborhood, San Francisco Police tweeted early Saturday.
"Last night's shooting in the Mission is still under investigation. I know there are a lot of questions and concerns in the community, and people want answers," Mayor London Breed said in a statement on Twitter.
"We are still working to understand exactly what happened and why and we will share information as soon as we can."
The gunman fired into a crowd of about 20 people outside Mission Skateboards, a skate shop that was hosting an outdoor party, a witness told the hyperlocal news outlet Mission Local.
SFPD Deputy Chief Raj Vaswani said in a statement that eight of the victims are men and one of them is a 19-year-old woman. The ages of the men ranged from 22 to 35.
After the shooting, police advised residents to avoid the area of 24th and Treat Streets as authorities conducted an investigation.
The nine victims were brought to San Francisco General Hospital and all are expected to survive their injuries, authorities said.
"At this time, the incident appears to be targeted and isolated," police said in a statement. "There is no known threat to the public at this time."
