Two SFPD officers slashed with knife in hotel standoff


(KRON) — Two police officers were cut with a knife when responding to an incident at a hotel in the Tenderloin neighborhood Sunday afternoon, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

The incident began Sunday morning when Hotel Spero staff at 405 Taylor Street alerted police that a woman was causing a disturbance in her room. Video from the scene shows smoke pouring out of a twelfth floor window.

The woman went quiet for about 20 minutes when police arrived on the scene before throwing her phone and a knife out the window. She then allegedly lit a fire in her room before officers could get through the door. Other guests at the hotel were evacuated for their safety.

Officers busted down the door to the room and were slashed with a knife. Both are expected to be alright, and the woman was arrested at the scene.

The police activity is caused delays in some parts of the Tenderloin neighborhood, according to a 511 alert issued to the San Francisco area on Sunday afternoon. Community members were asked to avoid the area of Taylor Street from O’Farrell to Geary streets due to police activity in the area.
