Sunday Sweep: Bryson Stott, JT Realmuto power Phillies’ to 8-6 win over the Padres
The Philadelphia Phillies, guided by two home runs from Bryson Stott and another from JT Realmuto, completed the Sunday sweep of the San Diego Padres, winning the finale 8-6.
Taijuan Walker made his first start of the 2024 MLB season and in typical fashion, labored through 6.1 innings, allowing eight hits and six earned runs, walking two and striking out four.
Note: Walker’s four-seamer, topped out at 91.1 mph – which aligned with what he was throwing in his rehab outings and during Spring Training – down nearly 2 mph from what he consistently threw last season.
Bryson Stott went 2-for-3 on the day with 4 RBI. Stott hit his first of two home runs on the day in the top of the second inning, scoring Nick Castellanos, who walked three times.

Stott’s second home run that also scored Nick Castellanos came in the top of the fourth inning with the Phillies trailing the Padres 3-2.

JT Realmuto joined Stott, crushing a 2-run home run of his own in the top if the sixth inning that scored Alec Bohm. In the top of the seventh, Realmuto added an RBI single to extend the Phillies lead to 7-3.

Side Note: Alec Bohm went 3-for-5 on the day – extending his current hitting streak to 12 games. Bohmer is 25-for-48 (.521) with 10 doubles, 3 home runs and 16 RBI during his 12-game hitting streak and has an extra-base hit in 8 straight games.
Phillies Starters vs Los Angeles Angels
Tonight, the Phillies will send Cristopher Sanchez to the mound, with Spencer Turnbull getting the start on Tuesday followed by Zack Wheeler.
According to Corey Seidman from NBC Sports Philly – the Phillies will then return to a 5-man rotation moving forward. The Phillies will play 19 games in 20 days after that second Thursday off, so even if Turnbull is shifted to the bullpen after Tuesday, he could potentially start a couple of times from May 10-29.
