Suspect sought after Barrio Logan shooting leaves man dead

By De'Anthony Taylor, Jermaine Ong,

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Police are looking for a suspect after a man was mortally wounded by gunfire during a shooting in the Barrio Logan area early Friday morning.

According to SDPD, officers received multiple calls around 5:49 a.m. about shots fired in the 1600 block of Logan Avenue.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 53-year-old Black man lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Officers say they used life-saving measures before the victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. His name has not been released to the public pending notification of the family.

The police department says they have very little information on what led to the fatal shooting. They only know the victim was in a verbal confrontation with another man shortly before being shot, and several people, including the shooter, fled the scene on foot.

A suspect has not been found, and authorities say they do not have a description due to the number of people that fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
