Young man shot downtown; police searching for gunman

SAN DIEGO — Police are searching for a gunman after a 20-year-old man was shot in downtown San Diego early Monday, authorities said.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., San Diego police received a call about a person shot near 5th Avenue and Broadway, SDPD confirmed to FOX 5.

Police say before the shooting, the victim was involved in an altercation with a group inside Phantom Nightclub in the 1000 block of 5th Avenue. When the group left the club, the argument continued outside on the street. That’s when someone in the group shot the victim several times in his upper body, police said.

The victim ran across the street, where he collapsed. He was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable but serious condition.

Police temporarily closed 5th Avenue and Broadway for their investigation.
