Padres fans at Petco Park erupted watching the SDSU buzzer-beater that sent the Aztecs to the March Madness championship game.

As you can imagine, the crossover between Padres fans and those rooting for the San Diego State Aztecs in the Final Four is pretty high. So the powers that be at Petco Park had the bright idea to broadcast the matchup between SDSU and FAU on the big screen at the ballpark before Saturday’s game against the Rockies.

The fans on hand were treated to an incredible moment as the Aztecs erased a double-digit deficit and Lamont Butler hit an epic game-winner at the buzzer.

And fans on Twitter were treated to a pretty cool moment as well as cameras caught the reaction of the Petco Park crowd.

It was cool enough seeing the crowd in Houston lose its mind over an all-time great Final Four shot. Adding the reaction of the crowd at Petco to the mix makes it all the more magical.

The No. 5 seed Aztecs weren’t expected to make it this far but now they’re 40 minutes away from winning their first men’s college basketball national championship.

It really didn’t look like it would happen for them on Saturday. Florida Atlantic controlled the game for most of the wa. They had a 40-33 lead at halftime and the deficit grew to 14 points in the second half.

Brian Dutcher’s squad didn’t lose hope. They battled back to make it a one-point game entering the final minute. Even then, the Owls fought them off. Alijah Martin hit a layup with 47 seconds remaining to give FAU a 71-68 lead. Jaedon LeDee answered with a jumper at the 38-second mark to pull back within one.

Johnell Davis’ missed jumper with 10 seconds left opened the door for SDSU’s big moment. Butler took the ball up the court, floundered for a second or two and then created the space he needed to let loose the biggest shot of his career.
