Creighton's NCAA tournament run ends with loss to San Diego State in Elite Eight
COACH GREG MCDERMOTT, ONE ON ONE MACK WHAT CAN YOU JUST SAY ABOUT THE SEASON THAT THIS TEAM HAD? THIS IS AN UNBELIEVABLE RIDE. THE JOURNEY THAT THIS TEAM TOOK ME ON. I MEAN, THE FANS OBVIOUSLY ENJOYED IT, BUT I HAD THE SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF IT EVERY DAY AND I COULDN’T BE MORE PROUD OF THEM. AND, YOU KNOW, YOU YOU HOW YOU WIN AND HOW YOU LOSE IS WHO YOU ARE. AND WE WIN WITH CLASS AND WE LOSE WITH DIGNITY. AND THESE GUYS ARE HURTING RIGHT NOW. BUT THEY’LL WE’LL HELP THEM GET PAST COUPLE OF YEARS DOWN THE ROAD. HOW DO YOU HOPE THIS TEAM IS REMEMBERED NOT JUST IN THAT LOCKER ROOM, BUT BY THESE FANS? YEAH, YOU KNOW, I THINK IT’S A CREIGHTON TEAM THAT, YOU KNOW, IS GOING SOMEWHERE THAT NO OTHER CREIGHTON TEAM HAS GONE. AND YOU KNOW, I’M REALLY PROUD LIKE A LOT OF MY OTHER TEAMS, THE WAY THESE GUYS HAVE REPRESENTED THE NAME ON THE FRONT OF THEIR JERSEY, IT’S NEVER BEEN ABOUT THEM. IT’S BEEN ABOUT CREIGHTON, IT’S BEEN ABOUT THEIR TEAMMATES AND WHEN YOU GO THROUGH TOUGH STUFF LIKE THIS, YOU NEED YOUR TEAMMATES EVEN MORE. SO THAT’S GOING TO BE REALLY IMPORTANT HERE MOVING FORWARD. WHAT WAS IT LIKE GOING THROUGH THIS TYPE OF JOURNEY, THE UPS AND DOWNS OF THIS SEASON WITH THIS SPECIFIC GROUP OF PLAYERS? IT’S A REWARDING BECAUSE DECEMBER WAS TOUGH AND IN NOVEMBER WAS THOSE WERE HARD TIMES. YOU KNOW, THEY SEEMED LIKE A DISTANT MEMORY BECAUSE OF ALL THE GOOD TIMES WE’VE HAD SINCE THEN. BUT IT’S ALL PART OF THE JOURNEY AND IT’S ALL THE REASON WE BECAME WHO WE ARE. IT’S, YOU KNOW, SOME TEAMS GO THROUGH THAT AND THEY, YOU KNOW, THEY CRACKLE AT THE SEAMS AND THEY FALL APART. AND THIS TEAM ACTUALLY GREW CLOSER TOGETHER. SO YOU KNOW, I’M JUST BLESSED THAT I HAD T
