6-year-old boy dies after being rescued from rollover crash in Kensington

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 6-year-old boy who was rescued from an SUV and taken to a hospital following a two-car crash in San Diego's Kensington neighborhood Wednesday has died.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Adams Avenue and Biona Drive.

First responders with San Diego Fire-Rescue Department say when they arrived at the scene, they found an SUV on its side resting on a fire hydrant with the child trapped inside.

10News Reporter Natay Holmes went to the scene and emergency crews told her the child was in his car seat at the time of the crash. They had to use the sunroof and parts of the SUV to get him out.

The child was freed in under 30 minutes and taken to Children's Hospital. It is unclear if he died during transport or at the hospital.

Officials have not released the type of injuries the child received. No other injuries were reported.

The San Diego Police Department is investigating the crash. Police say the scene will be shut down for a couple of hours.
