SAN ANTONIO – The back of an 18-wheeler burst into flames, causing traffic delays and slowdowns on Interstate 10 early Thursday morning, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The vehicle fire happened around 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 10 Eastbound near Loop 410, on the city’s East Side.

SAPD said at this time it is not exactly clear why the trailer erupted into flames. The driver of the big rig did however make it out safely. No injuries were reported.

Police say the scene of the vehicle fire is still currently active, but that is because of a secondary crash. The crash should be clearing soon.

A motorcycle rider fell off a bike into a grassy area near the road and had minor injuries. The crash happened just before 7:30 a.m., police said.

Police did not specify what the 18-wheeler was carrying at the time of the fire. An investigation is ongoing.
