San Angelo Man Pleads Guilty to Meth Possession and Child Endangerment

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has taken a plea deal after he was arrested for having a controlled substance inside a vehicle with a child under the age of 15.

Maximino Cazares pleaded guilty to abandoning a child and possession of a controlled substance.

According to court documents, on December 13, 2022, two Department of Public Safety Troopers conducted a traffic stop for operating an unregistered or improperly registered vehicle at around 10:30 p.m. The Troopers pulled over a 2011 white Dodge Avenger with California plates at Main Street and Pulliam Street.

The suspect vehicle had three occupants inside and the driver was identified as Cazares, who was found to have two Capias Pro Fine warrants in San Angelo. One of the Troopers placed Cazares under arrest and while searching his person, found a tin containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Two children under the age of 15 were in the back seat of Cazares’ vehicle. He was transported to the Tom Green County Detention Facility without incident and charged with possession of a controlled substance, abandon or endanger a child with criminal negligence, and for the two warrants.

In exchange for the guilty plea, Cazares was sentenced to eight years deferred adjudication for the possession charge and five years deferred adjudication for the criminal negligence with a child charge. In addition to the sentencing, Cazares must pay $180 in restitution. He was sentenced on May 24, 2023.
