San Angelo Rodeo Format Changed in 2023

SAN ANGELO, TX — The timed events will be a little different this year, according to San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo spokesman Josh Hilton. The change is meant to aid team roping contestants get to the rodeo in time to compete. Therefore, the team roping event will be moved to the end of the time-events sequence.

On April 1, The Bob Feist International team roping event takes place in Phoenix, Arizona. This year’s purse of $75,000 is too good for many of Saturday’s team ropers to pass up. Some of the ropers have scheduled charter jets to make it from Phoenix to San Angelo in time to compete on the San Angelo Rodeo’s first Saturday performance (for San Angelo, it will be performance #3).

Moving team roping to the end of all timed events will help these contestants make it in time to compete. There are 31 team roping pairs entered in this year’s Bob Feist Invitational team roping contest on Saturday.

According to PRCA rules, however, once an event is scheduled in a particular sequence in one performance, it must remain there for all other performances, include the first one that is tonight.
