BREAKING: Roof Collapses on Downtown San Angelo Building

SAN ANGELO, TX – The roof on a downtown San Angelo building on Monday afternoon collapsed following a severe thunderstorm.

As previously reported, on Mar. 27, 2023 at around 1:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Tom Green County. For the original article see: ALERT: Hail and Thunderstorms to Hit San Angelo

During that storm San Angelo Police Officers and Fire Fighters were called to 16 N Chadbourne for the report of a building collapse. This location is a vacant building between Gym 28 and Live Design.  Reporters on the scene say the roof on the two story building had fallen in and it appears a portion of the brick upper wall on one side had fallen in.

The building appeared to be vacant and there are no reports of injuries.

This is a developing story.

In efforts to contain the area, the San Angelo Police Department shut down the entire block of Chadbourne. A nixel was issued asking people to avoid the area.

"SAPD: Avoid Chadbourne between Harris and College," stated the nixel. "Road closed due to police/fire activity."

It is believed that no one was injured in the collapse. Crews are currently inside assessing the damage. No official statement has been given at this time.
