“On May 12th, 2023, Shelby Lynn Bernice Craig was located in the State of Idaho. She is currently safe and in the custody of child protective services in Kootenai County, Idaho.
Shelby, who voluntarily ran away from home on May 5th, 2023, was picked up by a male individual and fled with him to Idaho.
Calaveras County Detectives worked tirelessly to find Shelby’s whereabouts. After a tedious investigation, Detectives used investigative resources to track Shelby to a location in the State of Idaho.
On the morning of May 12th, 2023. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office contacted Calaveras County Detectives and confirmed that Shelby was safe and in their custody.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office in the State of Idaho for quickly and efficiently following up on our investigative requests.
Shelby is awaiting transportation back to San Andreas, California, to be reunited with her family and loved ones. The many aspects of this case and the persons involved in it are still under investigation. No further information will be released.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department received a call for service of a runaway female juvenile on 05/06/23.
Shelby Lynn Bernice Craig was last seen at her residence in San Andreas on 05/05/23 at 2100 hours and at that time was wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt. Shelby is described as 5’7”, 165 lbs, with blue eyes and “dirty” blonde which is mixed with purple hair.
The destination and direction of travel for Shelby is unknown. Calaveras County Detectives have been conducting an in-depth investigation and following up on leads provided by the public.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Department is aware that Shelby was possibly corresponding with an adult male online from Nevada. A Law Enforcement bulletin was sent to nearby agencies and agencies in Nevada.
The Sheriff’s Department is asking for your assistance in locating Shelby.
