Compared to Memorial Day weekend in 2022, Utah Highway Patrol troopers have pulled over more people for speeding, but the number of reported crashes have dropped.
According to data from UHP, there were 1,814 drivers caught speeding in the state over the weekend, between May 26 and May 29. Last year, that number was 1,779.
Also, in 2022, there were five fatal crashes with seven total fatalities — this year, there were two fatal crashes with two total fatalities. These statistics in particular were pulled from all agencies statewide.
Another notable difference was the number of reported DUI's, which increased from 39 in 2022 to 53 in 2023.

Troopers clarified that while these numbers came from their agency, the statistics about fatal crashes and fatalities came from all agencies statewide.
