Astros manager Dusty Baker said Brantley (shoulder) hit off a tee Thursday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports. Brantley began taking dry swings last week, but this was the first time he put bat-to-ball since his setback in early May. The veteran has been out all season while recovering from August 2022 shoulder labrum surgery and there remains no timetable for his 2023 debut, but he at least seems to be on the right track again with his rehab.

The 25-year-old Jung extended his hit streak to 13 games -- he's gone 21-for-49 with four home runs in that span. He's now slashing .291/.338/.527 with 12 home runs, 37 RBI and 39 runs scored through 219 plate appearances this season.

Mayfield (back) was seen taking some reps at right guard during 11-on-11 drills throughout last week's OTA practices, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports. The Falcons' 2021 third-round pick missed the entire 2022 NFL season with a back injury, but he's back on the field after having moved past the health issue. During his rookie campaign, Mayfield started all but one game for Atlanta at left guard, but the team now has him taking snaps at right guard. He won't be starting over All-Pro right guard Chris Lindstrom, so it's most likely that Mayfield will serve as a depth piece for the Falcons' offensive line.

Walker is slashing .342/.447/.579 with two home runs, one steal and a 25.5 percent strikeout rate over his last 10 games for Triple-A Memphis. On the year, he has been nine percent worse (91 wRC+) than the average International League hitter while working exclusively in right field since getting demoted from the big leagues April 26. The Cardinals are getting strong play on both sides of the ball from Lars Nootbaar, but none of the other big-league outfielders have taken a job and run with it. With Walker heating up at Triple-A, he has put himself in position for a promotion if the Cardinals think his defense will be satisfactory.

Smith signed with Seattle on May 13 as an undrafted free agent after a four-year collegiate career at Louisiana-Lafayette, but he will now look for another opportunity elsewhere. The running back not only handled backfield duties with the Ragin' Cajuns, but he also operated as a kick returner, compiling 1,409 yards and two scores on 60 returns over his last three seasons. Due to Smith's dynamic skill set, he has a chance to find another squad in the near future.

Blanco was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Blanco will make his first major-league start Thursday against the Angels. The 29-year-old has posted a 0.56 ERA and 21:13 K:BB over 16 innings covering two starts and two relief appearances at Sugar Land this season and a 4.50 ERA in nine relief outings with Houston. He would figure to be on a relatively limited pitch count Thursday.
