Man sentenced to 30 years in 2021 Dollar General shooting

1280 Dupont Jr

SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man has been sentenced to three decades in prison for his role in a late 2021 shooting.

Gary Dupont Jr. was convicted back in March of attempted second degree murder, firearm use in a violent crime, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and related offenses. On Thursday, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison, ten of those years being a mandatory sentence without the possibility of parole. He will be placed on five years of supervised probation on his eventual release.

The charges stem from an incident on December 27, 2021, at the Dollar General Store on North Salisbury Boulevard. What began as an altercation led to DuPont shooting the female victim once in the abdomen as she tried to take his picture to give to law enforcement. Dupont then fled the scene and disposed of the handgun.

The victim underwent emergency surgery at TidalHealth and survived her wound.

Dupont was arrested in April 2022 by members of the United States Marshals Service.
