2nd annual Hoops on the Ave. returns this weekend

SALISBURY, Md. –  It’s a celebration of all thing’s basketball as the second annual Hoops on the Ave. event makes a return this weekend in Salisbury.

Wicomico County Parks & Recs is spearheading the event and they tells us registration for this year has already doubled.

The free event will include a 3-on-3 tournament, slam dunk contest, a 3-point shootout and more. There will also be a tie-dye arts and crafts opportunity available for the youngsters.

Whether you’re a basketball pro or just a beginner you’re encouraged to come out as organizers say the event is a great way to bring the community together. “The goal of it is to kick off the summer and celebrate the culture surrounding basketball and everything that comes with it. The sneakers, the music, art, the entertainment,” WCPR Recreation Superintendent James Simmons said.

Pohanka Nissan will also sponsor the half-court shot contest. One lucky winner will take home $10,000 if they make that shot.

Simmons tells 47ABC they expect upwards of 3,000 people to attend.  We’re also told that several community partners will be present, including one who will be providing free haircuts.

The event will be this Sunday, May 28th outside the Wicomico County Youth & Civic Center from 12PM-8PM.
