Judy Church is charged with first-degree murder after she allegedly slipped a lethal dose of ethylene glycol into his Powerade bottle belonging to her boyfriend, Leroy Fowler, 55, in November, the Essex County District Attorney said. Ethylene glycol is found in antifreeze.

Prosecutors argued that Church was a flight risk and needed to be held behind bars while awaiting her trial, and the judge agreed.

Church called 911 around 8 p.m. on Nov. 11 to say her boyfriend needed medical help immediately. He was moved to three hospitals over the next two days, but doctors couldn't save his life. He died two days later at Beth Israel Hospital, prosecutors said.

Investigators said that Fowler had told friends and family that he believed Church was poisoning him in the weeks leading up to his death, authorities said. Police also found photos and videos on Church's cellphone that showed Fowler suffering before she called 911.

She will return to court on May 11.
