Timeline of Salinas barricade, shooting: At 7:49 a.m., Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputy received a routine call for service and responded to an apartment on East Market Street, near Sun St. to serve an eviction notice. At 7:56 a.m., the deputy asked for additional units to respond to his location. It was not an emergency situation at that point. At 8:46 a.m., shots were fired, and the deputy was hit multiple times by the suspect. Multiple local agencies then responded to the officer down call. At 9:53 a.m., a shelter-in-place order was put in effect. Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies and Salinas Police Officers did an officer rescue, and the officer was transported to Natividad. At 5 p.m., Monterey County Sheriff, Tina Nieto said the situation was still ongoing, was not resolved yet and that law enforcement continued to work to resolve the standoff peacefully. Nieto said the suspect was barricaded in a building, armed and dangerous. At 6:02 p.m., during the last press conference, Sheriff Nieto announced that the gunman was fatally shot. “The suspect that we tried to get to peacefully surrender, continued firing on our law enforcement agencies, endangering both the folks you see behind me there, their officers and the public. And just moments ago, the suspect was fatally shot,” said Nieto. Around 8 p.m., the shelter-in-place order was lifted. The name of the suspect involved in the standoff has not been released yet.
