A man caught transporting roughly 33 pounds of meth along Interstate 5 in Oregon has been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison.
David Contreras, 51, pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He was sentenced on Wednesday to 151 months in prison with five years of supervised release.
The charge stems from a traffic stop back on April 9, 2019. An Oregon State Police trooper pulled over Contreras and an accomplice for speeding northbound on I-5 near Central Point.
The trooper said they spotted a cardboard box inside the vehicle containing a clear package filled with what looked like meth. The accomplice driver had a suspended Oregon license and Contreras, who was a passenger in the car, didn’t have a drivers license.
State police investigators later confirmed the box had more than 33 pounds of meth inside. They also found a gun on the driver, more than $3,000 cash on Contreras, and another $6,000 cash in a backpack.
