‘It has been a nightmare’: St. Pete mother begs public for help in finding daughter’s killer

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The family of a woman who was killed in a stabbing is asking the public for help in solving her murder.

On Friday, the body of Jona Joy Waller, 34, was found in an alley south of the 200 block of 37th Street North, according to St. Petersburg police.

Officers said she had been stabbed to death.

“I really feel like she didn’t deserve to have to leave like this,” said Patricia Suggs-Walker, Jona Waller’s mother.

Suggs-Walker said her daughter was a sweet woman, who was a mother to two little girls.

“I found out [about her death] by St. Pete Police Department, and it’s been a nightmare ever since,” she said

“I’m not sleeping,” she added. “I’m not eating. I’m not doing my daily living, what I would do, because I need to find out what happened to my baby. I need to know what happened to her, and it ain’t been easy. It ain’t been easy.”

Suggs-Walker said she spoke to her daughter Thursday, as is their daily custom, and everything seemed to be fine.

“Every day, she would call, and when I didn’t get a call on Friday, I felt something was wrong,” she said.

Waller’s family asked anyone who has information on her death to come forward.

They said they will pray for whoever did this to Waller, but they want them to turn themselves into the police.

“I’m gonna fight till I get justice for her,” Suggs-Walker said. “I will not rest on this Earth until I get justice for my daughter.”

A reward of $5,000 has been offered for any useful information on the case.

If you know anything related to Waller’s death, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
