A Central Avenue coffee shop is closing.

The Crislip Cafe at 645 Central Ave. in downtown St. Petersburg announced Monday that it is closing because of “rising prices” and “staffing shortages,” according to the cafe’s Instagram.

Even though the coffee shop is closing, the space will still be under the owners Kevin and Jennifer Schultz. The Merchant gift shop and art gallery — which is adjoined to the Crislip and also owned by the Schultzes — will expand into where the cafe was in the next “few months,” the post read.

Last December, Jennifer Schultz told the Tampa Bay Times that high inflation was affecting business and hitting stores on Central Avenue, including hers, during the holiday season.

By focusing on The Merchant, the owners said in the social media post that they’re “going back to our roots.”

The post did not mention when the Crislip will close or if it’s already closed.
