Woman found dead in St. Petersburg, neighbors left with questions

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — There are still plenty of unanswered questions in the St. Petersburg Police Department’s investigation of a woman found dead Friday evening.

“Just surprising to us,” said Jeff Timmons. “It’s normally pretty quiet around here.”

St. Petersburg police said the woman was found with upper body trauma in an alley on the 200 block of 37th Street North, but could not specify as to what those injuries looked like or what caused them.

“There is no threat to the community,” said Ashley Limardo with the St. Pete Police Department. “This appears to be an isolated incident.”

Investigators did not say if they are searching for a suspect.

“We are still identifying the body, this is still very early on in the investigation,” Limardo explained. “But once we do, once we are able to identify our victim, we will be able to release the name, once next-of-kin has been notified.”

According to police, a neighbor found the woman and called 911 around 4:15 p.m. They didn’t know how long the woman was in the alley before then.

“We have seen some homeless,” said Ramona Timmons. “But nothing to this extreme, something like this happening.”

Ramona and Jeff Timmons live down the block from where the body was found.

“There’s several [neighbors] that work from home,” Timmons said. “So it’s a scary thought that something like that would even happen in our neighborhood.”

They said a lot of the neighbors are friendly and everyone takes their dogs out for walks.

“Everybody’s friendly,” Timmons said. “We all know each other. We all look out for each other. So that’s why this is so surprising.”
