Saints battle in 2nd home meet of the season

Monday evening, the St. Peter track and field program hosted its final home meet of the 2024 season with seven total schools in competition. The boys squad edged out Belle Plaine to finish first with 163 points while the girls finished second with 169 points, only 14.75 points behind the Tigers.

Highlights for the girls began in the 200 meter dash where Lydia Fell (29.11) and Vivian Hendrickson (29.16) finished fourth and fifth. In the 400m dash, Robin Hibscher finished fifth with a time of 1:05.56.

Keira Friedrich and Ella Dirks paced the field in the 800m run with times of 2:18.8 and 2:19.55, finishing first and second respectively. In the 1600m run, Lucia Penner finished fourth with a time of 5:46.06 before she claimed second in the 3200m run with a time of 12:30.54 with Grace Penner (12:50.83) finishing fifth.

In the 100m hurdles, Fell (17.05), Kyla Yost (17.78) and Rowyn Myhra (17.93) finished first, fourth and fifth. The 4x400m relay team of Hendrickson, Liliana Prunty, Dirks and Friedrich finished second with a time of 4:12.85 and the 4x800m relay team of Robin Hibscher, Kady Thoms, Grace Penner and Dirks finished second as well with a time of 10:36.17.

Field highlights began with Annika Magelee claiming first in discus with a top throw of 96 feet and two inches before Fell and Myhra finished second and third in the high jump with clears of 5’2” and 4’10” respectively. In the pole vault, Magelee (9’6”), Addison Landsom (9’6”), Trista Landsom (9’6”) and Laura Klatt (9’) finished second through fifth with places being determined by number of attempts.

In the long jump, Liliana Prunty finished second with a leap of 15’4.25” while Noelle Simonette finished fourth with a mark of 14’11.5”. Addison Landsom finished fifth in the triple jump with a top mark of 32’5”.

Boys highlights began with Elijah Mercado (11.95) finishing fifth in the 100m dash before Derek Guth and Ramiro Alcantara Alvarez finished first and fourth in the 200m dash with times of 23.43 and 24.12 respectively. Alexander Bur finished second in both the 1600m (4:42.29) and 3200m (10:36.37) runs.

Corbin Herron claimed first in both the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles with times of 14.82 and 40.85 respectively. The 4x100m relay team of Mercado, Alcantara Alvarez, Isai Morales and Guth teamed up to claim first with a time of 44.74.

Herron then joined Alcantara Alvarez, Morales and Guth to finish first in the 4x200m relay race, posting a time of 1:31.45.

In the shot put, Luke Banks posted a PR throw of 52’5” to claim first while Cole Junso finished fifth with a throw of 41’7”. Banks then threw a PR of 189’1” in discus to claim first with Junso also posting a PR of 141’1” to finish third.

In the pole vault, Brock Guth finished first with a clear of 11’6” while Derek Guth set a PR with a clear of 11’ to finish second. Morales finished first in the long jump with a PR of 20’5.5” while Herron finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 35’8.5”.

Some athletes will travel to Hamline University Friday, April 26, to compete in the Hamline Elite Meet which begins at 5 p.m. before the team competes in the Section 2AA True Team meet Tuesday, May 7, at Jordan H.S.
