St. Peter Youth Wrestling competed at the NYWA State Wrestling Tournament April 4th-7th, and brought home plenty of hardware. The Saints had eight individual state place winners, the highest number ever in a single season.

In order to qualify for state, wrestlers must place top two at a local district tournament, and top three at one of five regional tournaments around the state. State brackets are composed of the top 16 wrestlers across the state.

Saints place winners included (name/grade/weight/place):

Lennox Sather 1/2 50lbs 2nd place girls

Ryder Sather 1/2 50lbs 2nd place

Oliver Enz 1/2 80lbs 5th place

Jaxon Anderberg 3/4 72lbs 4th place

RJ Timmerman 5/6 65lbs 6th place

Elias Nielsen 5/6 80lbs 4th place

Dominick Hoffer 5/6 84 3rd place

Nick Rykhus 5/6 215lbs 3rd place

The K-6th team turned a lot of heads at the state tournament, finishing in eighth place out of 32 qualifying teams (the Saints were seeded 24th). This is St. Peter’s highest team finish since 2006. The team showed a lot of grit and determination to upset multiple teams, never backing down from a challenge. The Saints K-6th team includes:

Lennox Sather (45), Akoni Hoffer (45), Mavrik Mercado (45), Ryder Sather 50), Drew Janni (55), Brady Graham (55), Ryder Lehman (60), RJ Timmerman (65), Christian Miller (70), Jaxon Anderberg (75), Carter Miller (75), Elias Nielsen (80), Bryce Garberich (80), Maddox Mercado (80), Dominick Hoffer (84), Dylan Hoffer (93), Levi Robb (102), Sam Weber (115), Liam Jensen (115), Dominick Yost (115), Kale Draeger (130), Nik Rykhus (HWT).

The Middle School Team also competed at State. Comprised of mostly sixth graders, they didn’t back down from the challenge of wrestling older and larger athletes a majority of the weekend. The 7/8th team includes:
